    Al Sufyani: The authority received about 1130 environmental reports during the ban and issued about 492 environmental licenses and 53 environmental qualifications​


    During the meeting held by the Asharqia Chamber represented by the Environment Committee yesterday, Wednesday, July 1, 2020, the Vice President General for Environmental Affairs and Common Services, the General Authority of Meteorology and Environment, shed light on the visual communication technology and was managed by the Chairman of the Chamber’s Environmental Committee, Mr. Talal Sultan Rashid, highlighted the major body's efforts and initiatives launched during the pandemic that Corona.

    He explained, that during the period of the pandemic, the Commission was able to continuously coexist in carrying out its activities effectively and support the national efforts to address this pandemic. On the level of environmental licenses, the Commission intended to extend the environmental licenses and permits ending on 20/7/1441 to 20/1/1442, as the Commission provided In order to preserve the safety of its employees and beneficiaries, the remote licensing service was given priority in the completion of transactions related to medical and health projects, particularly supplies factories, medicines, health facilities, and health care waste disposal facilities, noting that during the ban period, the authority issued about 492 environmental licenses and issued 53 environmental qualifications And it delivered 323 electronic environmental licenses through customer service, among the licenses issued by the General Department of Environmental Licensing.​

    Al-Sufyani pointed out that the authority continued in environmental monitoring by measuring and monitoring pollution rates and air quality indicators, as well as continuing to verify chemical safety, hazardous waste and the National Ozone Unit, by converting the clearance process from paper to electronic while reducing the completion of the transaction from 7 to 3 Days, indicating that 109 import and export transactions of recycled waste have been cleared, 13 waste transit transactions have been approved, 3 government bodies have been destroyed, and 791 ozone import transactions have been opened in cooperation with government agencies.

    With regard to environmental inspection, Al-Sufyani indicated that the authority inspected 553 facilities to ensure compliance with environmental requirements, and received 1130 environmental reports, all of which were treated, pointing out that the priority in the inspection was for treatment and disposal facilities for health care waste.​

    ​Al-Sufyani said that the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture had launched the National Strategy for the Environment, which includes the establishment of (the National Center for Monitoring Environmental Compliance - the National Meteorological Center - the National Center for Plant Cover Development and Desertification Control - the National Center for Wildlife Development - the National Center for Waste Management), in addition to several initiatives related to the rehabilitation of polluted places, the protection of the marine and coastal environment, raising the efficiency of accreditation and environmental licensing processes and mechanisms, and the establishment of a central unit for monitoring air quality and emissions from the source, as well as the National Environmental Inspection Program, and work is currently underway to implement them​.
